City College of New York Attention: Professor Thomas Collin Subject : Letter of Introduction

Dear Professor Thomas Collins :

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Taner Avci and my major is electrical engineering. When I tell this to people, they are usually shocked, pun intended. I chose Electrical Engineering for a couple of reasons. One of them would be my ability to problem solve. Whenever I’m faced with a challenge, I look for all possible solutions and apply that.  Also, EE

is an incredibly broad major, so after graduating in 2022 hopefully, I’ll be able to explore my options. Unlike some other majors that really limit in which field you can work in. And finally, the money, although it may seem to rude to discuss money it’s definitely a factor to consider for your future. EE is a job that is in  a high demand market with a solid pay.  In 2017 the average salary was $97,970 per year. Furthermore employment has risen 7 percent from 2017. Taking all of these into account has lead me to choose Electrical Engineering as a major.

I’m really looking forward to learning about all aspects about being an engineer not only in school but also through internships.

One organization that I would like to be a part of  is the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers(IEEE). This organizations allows for members in similar fields to discuss, learn, and help one another. The IEEE is an amazing networking opportunity that I look forward to being a part of. They often hold events and meeting all around the world.

One of my professional goals is to have my own company. This idea of owning a business has always frightened me, and still does. But entering college I knew that I wanted to do something both incorporating business and engineering. I am considering taking business classes outside of CCNY in the future.  The American dream is to make it big by starting your own business and not working for somebody else right? I would also like to follow that path.

As I’ve said in class my dream job would be working at Lockheed Martin or Boeing. Working on aviation technology, and aircrafts would be an amazing engineering challenge for me to face. Working at one of these companies would also expand my skills and knowledge as Electrical Engineer. As it may seem clear at this point there are a lot of things I want to accomplish and some of them

are really far fetch, but if you dream hard enough and work hard enough all can be accomplished.

I hope this letter gave an insight on the type of student that I am professor Collin, I really am excited to be a part of your class and look forward to an amazing semester.

Sincerely your student,

Taner Avci

Electrical Engineer
